There are a couple of different ways I go about writing this monthly column. One is to just take the theme and start typing my meandering thoughts. The second is to wait until the stories and photos are in, the magazine is laid out and then share my thoughts.
I’m glad I waited to see this month’s issue come together before working on this column because it’s a good one. Of course, I think all issues of Bella are good. We work really hard every month to put together a collection of fun, informative articles while also telling the inspiring stories of local women. I love both aspects of Bella. A fun escape from life is important and I think we all enjoy reading about other women’s journeys.
As I started reading, I began thinking about the magic of coastal life. I love to travel, but my blood needs the salty air. I love the fun, flowy dresses of summer, and I love hats. I really, really, really love hats. So, I enjoyed reading about ES Custom Hats and the two friends who launched the business together.
Then I got to the story about Alvina Wooten. Wow. Just, wow. What a story. Wooten recently celebrated her 100th birthday, and I’m sure there’s so much more to her story than what we were able to touch on in just a couple of pages. Please make sure to turn to Page 33 and read about Wooten and some highlights from her life in Pensacola.
Back to the theme: Coastal Cool. Coastal culture has mastered the art of slowing down, and honestly, the rest of us should take notes. Long lunches. Sunset walks. Saying “maybe tomorrow” to anything stressful. There’s power in embracing a softer pace, especially during summer.
As for coastal style, it’s less about perfection and more about attitude. Hair gets messy. Sand ends up everywhere. Plans change with the tide. But the coolest women on the coast know one thing for sure: Confidence never goes out of style.
