May: Easy Relaxed Style

The dawn of spring ushers in long-awaited balmy temps, budding life and a desire for a fresh, easy, breezy style.
Embracing that vibe, fashion is witnessing less structure and more movement. Yet, Anne Frechette, of The Market & Mainly Shoes, stresses the importance of personalizing your look rather than being a slave to fashion whims.
“As far as cuts for pants, wide and relaxed are a great trend. But if someone can’t carry the trend, narrow is better.
“Denim is always in style — straight, skinny or wide-leg jeans or denim skirts are great paired with a jacket to dress up the look,” said Frechette. “Long or short skirts or dresses in cotton knit, linen or silk are all great for spring and summer.”
Sometimes, a new accessory revolutionizes an outfit. In the spirit of ease, sneakers, ballet flats and Mary Jane flats are showing up big in 2026, notes the Market & Mainly Shoes’ footwear guru Peg Woolverton.
“Every company seems to do a version of the Birkenstock double-strap sandal,” she added.
Smaller statement crossbody bags are light and whimsical for spring, sometimes acting as an outfit focal point. Totes are a must-have for days when traveling light isn’t an option!
Molly McGuire
Best female mentor ever?
For Catholic High graduate Molly McGuire that’s easy. It’s her mom.
“My mother has taught me how to stand up for myself, but to also remain kind and compassionate. She is my biggest laugh and my shoulder to cry on. She inspires me every day and is my rock,” said McGuire.
Bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State in hand, McGuire just completed a master’s in recreational and rehabilitation therapy from Florida International University.
“It’s a therapeutic technique that specializes in using recreational and leisure activities to help people regain their mobility and confidence. We do a lot of cognitive games as well as physical games, depending on the patient and their specific goals and likes,” explained McGuire. “I have always enjoyed helping people and making sure others feel comfortable in their own skin.”
She also teaches Pure Barre, plays pickleball and loves spending time at the beach or downtown with friends.
“I especially love the Saturday Market on Palafox.”
