Nestled along the historic, oak-lined corridor of Palafox Street in downtown Pensacola, Hotel Margot stands as a modern take on coastal hospitality. Offering a stylish blend of fresh design, thoughtful architecture and laid-back elegance, this boutique destination has quickly become a focal point for travelers and locals alike.

Whether a regional road-tripper seeking a weekend getaway, a staycationer looking for a retreat or a design lover searching for a curated escape, Hotel Margot captures the pulse of Pensacola from the moment guests step through its doors.

‍

Preserving History, Defining the Future

At its heart, Hotel Margot represents a celebration of Pensacola’s architectural story. Rather than replacing what came before, the vision centered on adaptive reuse and urban revitalization along one of Florida’s most iconic main streets.

“What drew us to the property was its history and its place on Palafox. We weren’t interested in tearing down what was here and starting over. We saw an opportunity to preserve the character of the building, give it a new life and create something that could be part of the next chapter of downtown Pensacola,” said Graham Guirl, who worked alongside Raf Simpson on the revitalization.

Redefining Coastal Luxury Through Design

Central to bringing that vision to life was designer Lauren Bakarian-Simpson, whose approach shaped the visual identity and character of Hotel Margot. When conceptualizing Hotel Margot, the vision was clear: to build a destination for guests who are well-traveled, design-conscious and accustomed to thoughtful hospitality.

Intentionally avoiding predictable beach-resort tropes, the design redefines Florida luxury by asking what a sophisticated traveler from New York, Palm Beach or Paris would hope to discover here.

The answer is an aesthetic that feels residential, transportive and deeply layered:

Rich textures and moods: A tactile mix of plush velvet, patterned fabrics, warm wood tones, aged brass and soft botanical accents.

Ambient lighting: Flattering candlelight and gentle fixtures take precedence over purely functional light, shifting the mood effortlessly from day to night.

A curated, personal feel: Spaces feature substantial, collected materials rather than formulaic hotel furnishings, making each room feel like a private residence with a distinct personality.

Instead of heavy coastal imagery, the sense of Florida emerges through the ease of the property, lush landscaping and seamless movement between indoor and outdoor spaces.

A Warm Welcome to Palafox Street

Stepping into the lobby, guests feel the seamless rhythm of downtown Pensacola. The bright, modern aesthetic offers a contrast to the quiet, historic charm of Palafox Street, creating an atmosphere that feels both stylish and approachable.

The heartbeat of the arrival experience centers around Café Colette. The lively European-style coffee shop draws a steady flow of local Pensacola residents alongside hotel guests, bringing vibrant neighborhood energy to the lobby space.

“We believe Pensacola is entering a different chapter. There is an incredible foundation here — history, architecture, the water, Palafox Street — and increasingly there are restaurants, businesses and hospitality concepts that can compete with much larger markets. Margot is our contribution to that evolution,” said Simpson.

Hotel Margot balances its open, community-first feeling with moments of relaxing ease. The courtyard pool deck serves as an urban oasis — stunning, sunlit and the perfect spot for a photo.

Between the café, pool area and sidewalk seating, the layout creates an inviting atmosphere where guests relaxing poolside sip crafted drinks while locals stroll down Palafox, creating an effortless social crossroads that celebrates the best of Florida leisure.

Tapping Into Pensacola’s Neighborhood Rhythm

Hospitality at Hotel Margot extends far beyond its accommodations. The property’s staff acts as personal concierges to the city, ensuring every visitor experiences Pensacola like an insider. Guest rooms feature local maps, and the team is well-versed in local events.

Offering guests choices and tailored recommendations for local restaurants, gift shops, music venues and attractions is vital. From the bustling Saturday morning Palafox Market to the monthly Gallery Night celebrations along South Palafox, the neighborhood is alive with activity. Sports fans and culture seekers can catch Blue Wahoos baseball, Ice Flyers hockey or head down to Historic Seville Square — just an easy 10-minute walk from the hotel front doors — for seasonal festivals and live music.
