SKIN
Summer skin is all about lightweight, minimal coverage with a bronzed, dewy finish and pops of subtle color. It is important to always use broad-spectrum SPF to protect against UVA (aging rays) and UVB (burning rays).
• SPF Smart: The number one rule with SPF is that everyone should wear it no matter what. All skin tones can burn and sustain damage from the sun. When choosing an SPF, always use SPF 30 or higher. Mineral sunscreens are best for sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, rosacea, kids and babies. They work immediately with less sensitivity but can feel heavier and have a white or gray cast. Chemical SPF is lightweight and is best for sports and daily wear under makeup with no cast. It can take up to 30 minutes for chemical sunscreen to be effective, so apply early.
• Bronzed Sunbathed Beauty: Lazy days at the pool, beach or boating call for tinted sunscreens and all-over lightweight coverage to replace heavy foundations. The goal is to appear sun-kissed all summer long without getting the sun damage. If your skin is dry, find a bronzer that is creamy to accent cheekbones and to create a natural, dewy contour. If your skin sways to the oilier side, a powder bronzer may be best for you.
• Muted Color: Tinted lip balms, creamy blushes and shadows in subtle hues give romantic glam with minimal effort. Go for a weightless emollient that can be gently patted onto the cheeks, lips and eyes for an effortless look and radiant finish.
HAIR
With a nod to the past, these hair trends are making a comeback in a big way. Whether the vibe is easy breezy, big and bold or rocker glam, throwback tresses are a must this summer.
• Return of the Side Part: Great news, Millennials! The side part has returned. For the past several years, we have forced our middle parts to stay in touch with the times, but most of us have yearned for our natural side parts to fall back into place. The look boosts volume, balances facial features that may not be symmetric (as is true for everyone) and creates versatility.
• Curly Wolf Cut: For anyone with naturally curly hair, the wolf cut embraces curls in a fun, ’80s rocker kind of way. Short layers around the face and long layers in the back take this look just past a mullet in all the right glamorous ways.
• ’70s Feathering: Beautiful blown-out, feathered layers are seen everywhere and definitely give Farrah Fawcett vibes. Online tutorials have guided women young and old on how to master heated and heatless curls to give the perfect swoop and bounce for long, luxe manes. Charlie’s Angels, here we come!
NAILS
In the heat of summer, nail salons bustle with women wanting to spice things up for days at the beach or the next holiday adventure. This summer, there are a variety of looks to choose from and definitely something for everyone. Whether you want clean and simple styles or something to stand out in a crowd, nails are a top priority in the beauty industry.
• Watercolor Wash: Clean, translucent pastels give a subtle jelly-like finish with minimal color. Perfect for work or play, these shades pair well with shorter lengths and any attire.
• Sunset Hues: Bright pops of yellow, orange, pink and red keep the days hot and evenings sultry. These shades perfectly accessorize all summer wardrobes.
• Micro Masterpieces: Nail art has taken on a life of its own. Everything from floral and fruit motifs to holiday themes and tiny adornments will take center stage this summer. All 10 nails can match or each can tell a different story. Polka dots, animal prints and abstract designs in every color are also a huge hit.
